Left Wing (LW) vs. Right Wing (RW): What's the difference?
Choosing the right wing is crucial for consistent arrow flight. Here’s what you need to know:
-
The Natural Curve: Feathers from the left wing of a bird naturally curve to spin the arrow clockwise (when viewed from the rear), while right-wing feathers spin it counter-clockwise.
-
The Golden Rule: You CANNOT mix left and right-wing feathers on the same arrow. Doing so will cause turbulent flight and poor accuracy.
-
Which one should I choose?
-
Performance-wise: There is no significant difference in accuracy between the two.
-
The Compatibility: Most traditional archers choose based on their existing fletching jig (clamp). If your jig is a "Left Twist," you must use Left Wing feathers.
-
Visual Identification: If you look at the feather from the back, the natural "rough" side of the feather faces the direction of the spin.
